Similar to the US, these can be bundled or packaged together. Sim cards can be bought through France Télécom and other companies such as Virgin Mobile. Incoming calls in France are free. Outside of France however, roaming charges will apply. A company such as Intercontinental Wireless will allow you to purchase a French Sim card outside of France. The card must be activated once you arrive in France. Additional minutes can be purchased at a conveince store, tobacco shop, or mobile phone store. Continental Wireless also allows you to rent a mobile phone if you are simply traveling to France

Spanish Phone Networks

Spanish Phone Networks

If you are moving to Spain, this article will describe the different phone services in the country. Land lines or fixed lines will be discussed, followed by mobiles which will then be followed by a section discussing how to call Spain from elsewhere.

Landlines/Fixed lines in Spain

As with electricity, Spain has a national telephone company that is responsible for providing the consumer with a landline. This company, Teléfonica, has a customer service office (Oficina de Atención al usuario), as well as a comercial office (oficina commercial), in each province. To connect or reconnect a landline, Teléfonica requests that you have the following documentation proof of address, a passport or residence permit, a recent electricity bill, along with some form of identification. If there is already a phone line installed in the residence, then it will only cost about 59 euros. Get an estimate first, as how far you are from the junction can affect the price. The average cost per month is about 15.68 euros. You are charged by the amount of calls made.

Mobile Services in Spain

Spanish mobile service is considerably different from North American mobile or cell phone providers. If you use an ATNT or T-Mobile cell phone, you may be able to use your own carrier by roaming while you are in Spain. Mobiles can also be rented through companies such as CellHire. Cellhire can predeliver a cell phone with instructions, a battery, charger, and adapters for foreign outlets. The service costs vary according to the location of the call, and there is a fixed tax of .07 per call. Of course, incoming calls are free regardless of where the call comes from. Simply return the phone after your trip with their return pack.

A cheap alternative to these expensive options is to buy a prepaid Simcard. This chip functions similar to the calling cards in the U.S. They normally come with an initial amount of credit. The chip is inserted into your phone, and you then have access to features such as your address book, text messaging, and the ability to make and receive calls. Each sim card has a certain amount of time with the amount of credit that varies depending on where you call. These Sim cards are available in different units similar to a U.S. calling card.

Calling Spain from Elsewhere

If you need to call Spain from abroad, dial 011 followed by 34, the Spanish country code. Then dial the Spanish phone number.

Verizons fiber-optic networks process achieves almost 1Gbit/sec

Verizon said today optic field studies carried out in June is for business customers in Taunton, Mass., delivered near the speed of gigabit per second.
Client received 925Mbit/sec. bandwidth to the server in the location of economic activity of the Verizon Central Office less than two kilometers, Verizon officials said. 800Mbit/sec speeds. reported to the regional servers Speed Test 400 miles.
Verizon has reached higher speeds in laboratory studies using the Gigabit Passive Optical Network(GPON) switches, and other tools developed by Motorola that Verizon has been installed for two years, but this is the first published field studies.
almost gigabit per second speed can be expected to compete in speed Google Think of the Big Gig Experimental fiber-optic network first announced in February that is done over 1,100 communities across the country.
Google wants to start the process of fiber-optic network in one or more locations 1Gbit/sec. Call for 50,000 to 500,000 people. Google have a place to announce the end of the year.
Process Verizon, however, is based on the existing network of Verizons Advocate. We do not compete with the things[Google] planning, said spokesman Philip Santoro. They can think about the competition of the things we already have. We have a network today.
client in the process was not selected. Trial was to demonstrate in a live network setting tool you currently use Verizon FiOS can handle a greater throughput 3DTV services, virtualization, storage, wireless remote and back without any significant changes in the network.
FiOS is offered at speeds of 50Mbit/sec. to business and residential customers. Verizon officials could not say when or even faster as Taunton in the study area may be offered, if additional capacity can be used by Verizon in order to ensure a gradual increase in system capacity for more users and bandwidth tax applications.
GPON Platform is to go beyond the assessment of field research to 2.4Gbit / sec. Further and 1.2Gbit/sec. upstream although such speeds have not been observed in the use of Verizons network.
Vincent OByrne, director of Verizons technology group, said in a statement that studies have shown that GPON platform can be used to gradually increase fiber capacity for the needs of both individual and business customers.
Verizon does not describe the level of bandwidth for each user in the field.
